Wholly Following the LORD

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

To remind us first of all, there will be a blood drive hosted by the Red Cross in the atrium this Sunday. I strongly encourage many of us to donate blood as hospitals have been struggling with the shortage of blood due to many Covid patients. It takes about 45 minutes for an individual to go through the process, so make sure you fully worship either service then participate. Also, I encourage all the recent comers to sign up for the upcoming Grace Encounter today as there will be a sign up table in the sanctuary. To remind you, Encounter is designed to help you to engage with other church members through fellowship, through God’s word by listening to the lectures given by other laypeople, and through God Himself by the power of the Holy Spirit during the retreat. Those who attended as the candidates at the previous Encounter, I ask you to serve as team members to help others to experience God’s grace.

As we have been reading the Book of Joshua, I was blessed and challenged by Caleb. As we know, he was the only one who survived the forty years of wilderness along with Joshua and was able to enter into the Promised Land. He was forty years old when he spied on the land at the command of Moses returning with the report in faith that God will deliver the Canaanites along with their land. He was almost stoned to death with Joshua as ten other spies brought evil reports bringing insurrection to the entire Israelites who gripped and wailed with fear, kindling the wrath of God. Then, when Caleb was 85 years old, he came to Joshua as they resided in Gilgal, claiming his inheritance that was promised by God through Moses. He said, “I am eighty five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said (Jos 14:10b-12).”

Caleb then possessed Hebron and drove out Anakim. The Bible says, “Because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel (Jos 14:14).” In fact, in chapter 14 of Joshua, it was mentioned three times that Caleb followed the LORD God of Israel (Jos 14:8, 9, 14). During 38 years of wilderness and about 7 years of wars against the Canaanites, he wholly followed God. His heart was singly devoted to God and unwaveringly trusted the LORD. Most will think about retiring from any work or warfare if not think about death. But, Caleb defied his age and his potentially decaying body. Just like Isaiah said, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint (Jos 40:30-31).”

Our hearts are easily distracted and divided. That is why the Proverbs exhorts us, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life (Pro 4:30).” We know life is a marathon. Here and there some may become passionate for the Lord for a season then exit out. However, like Caleb, may we run the marathon by wholly following the LORD. May we be remembered after we have gone to be with the LORD by the next generation that we were the generation who wholly followed God. May Jesus say to you and I, “Good and faithful servant, you have wholly followed me while you were on earth, now, enter into My banquet and sit with me to reign forever.” Love you all.

BLOOD DRIVE: Blood is in short supply in this COVID season and one way to serve our local community is to give blood! We will be hosting a blood drive in our atrium this Sunday, July 25 from 9:00PM-3:00PM

BLESS ISRAEL: This month’s Bless Israel service will take place in person and online at 8PM on July 27. Join us as we learn about and pray for God’s chosen people!

BASKETBALL FELLOWSHIP: We will be hosting a basketball fellowship event with a few of our sister churches on Sunday, August 1 from 4:30PM-6:30PM in the GMI gym. GMIEM CAREER PANEL will be hosting an in-person college application information session on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from 10:00AM to 11:30AM in the High School Room #203. Our speakers will be John Park (Education Consultant), Erin Song (Financial Aid Specialist at BIOLA), and Timothy Jung (former U.S. Marine Corps Infantry). BIBLE TIME: The August issue of Bible Time is available to our members to pick up for free in our sanctuary. Let’s keep seeking the Lord through the Word together!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: As we have reopened many areas of our ministry, we are in dire need of volunteers to serve in our Children’s ministry (especially our nursery), Welcoming ministry, Media and Furnace ministries. If you are interested in serving in any capacity, please contact P. Ree-Na.

EM PARKING: The shuttles to the DMV parking lot have resumed service. If you are having trouble finding parking in the Valencia lot, please park at the DMV. Our EM West Parking Lot is reserved for newcomers and parents with young children. We kindly ask that our members respect our neighbors by not parking on residential streets. Thank you!

SHILOH+ is on Thursday nights in person and online from 8PM-9:30PM. We begin with a time of praise followed by a short topical message and an extended time of corporate prayer. Those who are attending in person are invited to stay for individual prayer time until 10PM.

GRACE 24/7 PRAYER WATCH is a virtual prayer watchtower for us to pray in a continuous chain for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during this time of the coronavirus pandemic. Join by signing up for 30 minute prayer slots at gmiem.org/prayerwatch.

EARLY MORNING PRAYER is ongoing, Monday thru Saturday at 6am, in person and live on our YouTube channel. Let’s continue to seek God and fervently pray against COVID-19!

NIGHT PRAYER: The Miracle Center sanctuary is open for a time of individual prayer from 8PM to 10PM every night, Sunday through Wednesday night. Masks are required and the usual COVID precautions apply. Let’s continually seek after the Lord until tsunami-like revival comes!

SERMON DISCUSSION OUTLINES: Our weekly cell group sermon discussion outlines will be available Monday afternoons to anyone who wishes to further study and meditate on the previous Sunday’s sermon. The outlines can be found on the sermons page on our website at www.gmiem.org/sermons.

GUIDELINES FOR IN PERSON WORSHIP

Although the State of California has relaxed masking and distancing guidelines, for the health and safety of our beloved members and visitors we as a church will continue to practice social distancing. Those who wish to attend Sunday worship in person will undergo a mandatory health screening and provide contact information upon arrival. All attendees are asked to maintain good social distancing and wear a mask covering the nose and mouth all times, including those individuals who may have been vaccinated.

Please park and enter from the Valencia lot on the east side of the building by the Koinonia Room. Parents with young children and newcomers may park and enter from the west lot.

We want to encourage all of our members to make it a priority to come and worship in person if it is at all possible in order to give the Lord our heart and soul through the worship He deserves.

However, for the health, safety and edification of our congregation we ask that the following categories of people do not attend in person:

• Anyone experiencing any symptoms of any sickness of any kind.

• People who have attended any social, business or other gatherings in the last 14 days where unvaccinated attendees were not wearing masks while within 6 feet distance.

• Frontline health care workers and others who may have had direct contact with those infected by coronavirus within the previous 14 days.

• We continue to recommend that those in close contact with the elderly and other high risk groups do not attend for the safety of the most vulnerable.

We ask that congregants exit the building promptly after service and have fellowship outside.

GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE WORSHIP

It can be difficult to maintain a proper heart posture for worship while surrounded with the comforts and distractions of home. Here are some guidelines to help you keep the proper attitude as we worship God together:

• Please prayerfully join the worship

• Have a right heart and body posture as you worship Him (ie. wash up, get dressed, sit up and don’t lie down)

• Remove any distractions

• Find a place where you and/or your entire family can focus on worshiping God

• Use the largest screen available to worship

• Be ready to give offering online

• During the message please refrain from interacting each other in chat to focus more on the Word.

All of our cell groups are currently meeting via Zoom conferencing software. During this time of isolation, we highly encourage all of our members to proactively seek out and join a cell group. Although we are not meeting physically, these times of prayer, worship and fellowship are crucial to maintaining our spiritual health and growth.
