40 Years of Grace

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Next Sunday, we are going to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our church. Forty years ago in 1982, our founding Pastor, David Kwangshin Kim started a church with three families in the city of Fullerton. From the beginning, Pastor Kim made a commitment to allocate more than 50% of the church finance for world missions. At the time, there were already about 40 Korean-American churches in Southern California. While he was praying and seeking God’s guidance on why and how he should start a church, he realized by the Holy Spirit’s leading that this church will exist for the sake of world missions. The 50% financial allocation was a token of this church’s commitment for world missions. Pastor Kim dreamt big. Although he started the church in his late 40’s, he opened his mouth widely in faith so that God may use this church for world missions. In fact, he prayed so that God may use this local church for missions all throughout the world.

Pastor Kim was very much inspired by D.L. Moody's statement, “I will show to the world what God can do through a man whose heart is fully devoted.” Moody didn't even finish elementary school and spoke broken English. Yet, according to his faith, God used him globally as a preacher of the Gospel in the most powerful way. Being inspired, Pastor Kim also trusted God fully, surrendering his life for the sake of the Gospel, and prayed that his humble immigrant local church in Southern California will do the most mission work in the whole world. We are not certain whether as a local church, Grace Church has done the most missional work in the world or not, but many acknowledge that this local church has done world missions in such an unprecedented way. Pastor Kim is known to have flown to different nations more than any other Korean pastor.

As Pastor Kim was desiring and praying to be used by God in a powerful way, he happened to read the Book of Isaiah 41. “Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will help you, says the LORD And Your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Behold, I will make you into a new threshing sledge with sharp teeth; You shall thresh the mountains and beat them small, And make the hills like chaff. You shall winnow them, the wind shall carry them away, And the whirlwind shall scatter them; You shall rejoice in the LORD, And glory in the Holy One of Israel” (Isa 41:14-16). Pastor Kim was convicted by this passage and it came like a Rhema word that being held by the hands of God, he could be used by Him. Over the past 40 years, God used Pastor Kim to make disciples of Jesus. Thousands of churches were planted and countless people were saved. Today, Grace Church is known to be the church that does world missions in an extraordinary way. All glory to God.

Biblically, 40 years represents a generation. A generation used in an unbelievable way in regards to world missions has passed. Now arises another generation who will take the torch of the gospel to the ends of the earth. God is calling you and I to fully surrender our lives so that we may become the new threshing sledges to break down the mountains and the hills into chaff. This new generation will go further and wider with the torch of world missions, ultimately preparing the second coming of Jesus Christ. Praise God.

40TH ANNIVERSARY: Our church will be celebrating our 40th anniversary next Sunday, May 22 with special joint services with all of our youth from junior high on up and ending with a special lunch after the 11:30AM service. Join us as we give God all the glory and celebrate all of the great many ways the Lord has used our church over its history!

VBS VOLUNTEERS: Do you have a heart for raising up the next generation of believers? VBS is going on from June 28 - July 2! We will be having a kickoff meeting for VBS volunteers this Sunday, May 15 at 1:15PM in the High School Room #203.

CHURCH CLEANUP DAY: It’s time for our annual Church Cleanup Day! God has blessed us with this wonderful church facility so join us next Saturday, May 21 at 10AM in the Atrium as we come together to take care of this gift that God has given us.

GIVE TO UKRAINE: Our GMI missionary in Ukraine has remained in the country, diligently serving the Ukrainian people, taking in refugees as well as distributing food and supplies along with the gospel to the surrounding communities. PARKING: Parking spots that are blocked off by cones in our EM West Lot are exclusively for newcomers and parents with strollers though this doesn’t guarantee you a reserved spot if you arrive late, so come early! We kindly ask leaders and other members who have been attending over one month to park in the Brookhurst lot or utilize the free shuttle to the DMV lot located at the corner of Valencia and Euclid. We also ask that our members respect our neighbors by refraining from parking in the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Thank you!

SHILOH: Shiloh is going on every Thursday night at 8PM in the Miracle Center sanctuary and online. It is a time of worship, testimony and fervent prayer. We are also doing a chapter-by-chapter survey of the Book of Revelation. Join us as we give God glory and receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit every Thursday night!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are in need of volunteers to serve in our Children’s ministry, Welcoming ministry, Parking, Media and Furnace ministries. If you are interested in serving in any capacity, please contact P. Nathan at nathan@gmiem.org.

GMI MISSIONS CONFERENCE: The GMI Missions Conference we have been praying for will be taking place November 1-4, followed by a revival with Pastor Philip Mantofa November 4-6. We highly encourage all of our members to be fully involved in serving our missionaries as well as attending the revival. Contact E. EARLY MORNING PRAYER: is ongoing, Monday thru Saturday at 6am, in person and live on our YouTube channel. Join and start off every morning in intimacy with the Lord.

NIGHT PRAYER: The Miracle Center sanctuary is open for a time of individual prayer from 8PM to 10PM every night from Saturday through Wednesday. Let’s continually seek after the Lord until tsunami-like revival comes!

GUIDELINES FOR IN PERSON WORSHIP

In accordance with updated guidance from the State of California, mask wearing is recommended but will no longer be mandatory for those in attendance at our services. As COVID-19 remains a threat, we will continue our contact tracing protocol. Those who wish to attend Sunday worship in person will provide contact information for contact tracing purposes upon arrival.

We ask that congregants exit the building promptly after service and have fellowship outside.

We want to encourage all of our members to make it a priority to come and worship in person if it is at all possible in order to give the Lord our heart and soul through the worship He deserves.

However, for the health, safety and edification of our congregation we ask that you do not attend in person if:

• You or anyone in your household are currently experiencing any symptoms of any sickness of any kind including sore throat, shortness of breath, coughing and fever or chills.

• You have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 5 days.

In accordance with current CDC guidelines, if you have experienced symptoms or have tested positive, we ask that you do not return to our church campus until five days have passed since symptoms first appeared (or since the first positive test, if asymptomatic) and you tested negative on a test taken on day 5 or after and you do not have a fever while other symptoms are not present or are resolving. If you are unable to get tested or choose not to test but other conditions are met, we ask that you wait until day 10 after symptoms appeared (or the first positive test) before returning.

If you have tested positive and were present at one of our functions, please contact staff@gmiem.org immediately so we may begin contact tracing procedures. This process is confidential and necessary to help keep our community safe.

GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE WORSHIP

It can be difficult to maintain a proper heart posture for worship while surrounded with the comforts and distractions of home. Here are some guidelines to help you keep the proper attitude as we worship God together:

• Please prayerfully join the worship

• Have a right heart and body posture as you worship Him (ie. wash up, get dressed, sit up and don’t lie down)

• Remove any distractions

• Find a place where you and/or your entire family can focus on worshiping God

• Use the largest screen available to worship

• Be ready to give offering online

• During the message please refrain from interacting each other in chat to focus more on the Word.
