Next 40 Years of Grace

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Happy Birthday GMI! Today marks the 40th anniversary of GMI. Our founding pastor, Pastor David Kwangshin Kim planted a church with three families in 1982 in the city of Fullerton, renting an American church on Euclid not far from our present campus. The rented church building no longer exists but the church itself is very vital, having grown and multiplied globally, with literally millions of church members in thousands of planted and affiliated churches. It has been truly by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit that this miraculous mission work has been accomplished. The first generation of the believers of this church bought into the vision that the Holy Spirit gave to Pastor Kim, running the race together, willing to not only believe in Jesus Christ but also suffer together with Him for the cause of the furtherance of the Gospel. All glory to God!

Now, the question remains. What will the next 40 years of GMI look like? How will this second generation of believers respond to the calling of this church? This church of humble and small beginnings has established its own denomination of global scale. Will this generation receive the torch of the gospel and further run the race, ushering in the second coming of Jesus Christ? Will this generation be willing to lay down their lives for the sake of the gospel as the previous generation did? Will they be willing to participate in the sufferings of Christ? Will they also be willing to let go of the earthly American dream – and dream big for God and for His purposes? Will this generation see much greater miraculous works of God in the nations?

The answer is, “It depends.” As only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus were we saved; however, by obedience in faith to the calling of this church, specifically, the competition of the world missions, we will see the greater glory ahead of us. If we were to forsake temporal earthly ambitions and instead respond in faith for God’s dream to be accomplished in our own days – to see the nation of Israel come to know their own Messiah Yeshua, to see billions of Muslims meet true living Savior, and to see the remaining UUPGs hear and accept the name of Jesus – then our God will do it again and this time in much greater way through us, this generation, over the next 40 years if Christ has not returned by then. If our aim is the prize of higher calling of God in Christ Jesus and greater heavenly rewards at the time of His coming, then we must dream big for Him.

God’s dream requires obedience, faith and surrender. We must be willing to obey His calling to preach the gospel to all nations. We must move in faith, trusting God will give us nations. Thus, we must surrender our lives completely so that God may freely use us as His powerful instruments to save souls and the nations. Let the purified Bride of Christ arise! Let the mighty army of Christ march forth! Let the English Ministry of GMI write another chapter of miracles over the next 40 years! Love you all.

SUNDAY PRAYER TIME: Join us before service at 9:10am and 11:20am to intercede and pray for our church, our service, and our nation - online or in person.

40TH ANNIVERSARY: Our church is celebrating our 40th anniversary this Sunday, May 22 with special joint services with all of our youth from junior high on up and ending with a special lunch after the 11:30AM service. Get your limited-edition T-shirt as well as pick up lunch in the atrium after 2nd service as we give God all the glory and celebrate all of the great many ways the Lord has used our church over its history!

PARKING: Parking spots that are blocked off by cones in our EM West Lot are exclusively for newcomers and parents with strollers. We expect parking to be especially difficult this Anniversary Sunday so we kindly ask our members who have been attending over one month to park in the Brookhurst lot or utilize the free shuttle to the DMV lot located at the corner of Valencia and Euclid. We also ask that our members respect our neighbors by refraining from parking in the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Thank you!

SUMMER MISSIONS PREVIEW: Mission trips are back! We’ll be making two trips to India, in late July and also in early August, as well as a trip to Turkey in mid-August. We will also have a trip to Israel in September. If you are interested, come to our Summer Missions Preview Meeting this Sunday, May 22 at 2PM in the high school room #203.

TRES DIAS: Space is running out so grab one of the last spots at EGTD 17! It will be taking place next Sunday thru Wednesday, May 29-June1 and it’s unlike any retreat or conference you’ve been to before! BIBLE TIME: Let’s continually seek God together by reading his word! The June edition of Bible Time is now available to all of our members at the back of the sanctuary.

GIVE TO UKRAINE: Our GMI missionary in Ukraine has remained in the country, diligently serving the Ukrainian people, taking in refugees as well as distributing food and supplies along with the gospel to the surrounding communities. If you would like to support these efforts, please pray and also consider giving financially. All donations marked “Ukraine” will be passed on directly to our missionary. SHILOH: Shiloh is going on every Thursday night at 8PM in the Miracle Center sanctuary and online. It is a time of worship, testimony and fervent prayer. We are also doing a chapter-by-chapter survey of the Book of Revelation. Join us as we give God glory and receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit every Thursday night!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are in need of volunteers to serve in our Children’s ministry, Welcoming ministry, Parking, Media and Furnace ministries. If you are interested in serving in any capacity, please contact P. Nathan at nathan@gmiem.org.

GMI MISSIONS CONFERENCE: The GMI Missions Conference we have been praying for will be taking place November 1-4, followed by a revival with Pastor Philip Mantofa November 4-6. We highly encourage all of our members to be fully involved in serving our missionaries as well as attending the revival. Contact E. EARLY MORNING PRAYER: is ongoing, Monday thru Saturday at 6am, in person and live on our YouTube channel. Join and start off every morning in intimacy with the Lord.

NIGHT PRAYER: The Miracle Center sanctuary is open for a time of individual prayer from 8PM to 10PM every night from Saturday through Wednesday. Let’s continually seek after the Lord until tsunami-like revival comes!

SERMON DISCUSSION OUTLINES: Our weekly cell group sermon discussion outlines will be available Monday afternoons to anyone who wishes to further study and meditate on the previous Sunday’s sermon. The outlines can be found on the sermons page on our website at www.gmiem.org/sermons.

GUIDELINES FOR IN PERSON WORSHIP

In accordance with updated guidance from the State of California, mask wearing is recommended but will no longer be mandatory for those in attendance at our services. As COVID-19 remains a threat, we will continue our contact tracing protocol. Those who wish to attend Sunday worship in person will provide contact information for contact tracing purposes upon arrival.

We ask that congregants exit the building promptly after service and have fellowship outside.

We want to encourage all of our members to make it a priority to come and worship in person if it is at all possible in order to give the Lord our heart and soul through the worship He deserves.

However, for the health, safety and edification of our congregation we ask that you do not attend in person if:

• You or anyone in your household are currently experiencing any symptoms of any sickness of any kind including sore throat, shortness of breath, coughing and fever or chills.

• You have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 5 days.

In accordance with current CDC guidelines, if you have experienced symptoms or have tested positive, we ask that you do not return to our church campus until five days have passed since symptoms first appeared (or since the first positive test, if asymptomatic) and you tested negative on a test taken on day 5 or after and you do not have a fever while other symptoms are not present or are resolving. If you are unable to get tested or choose not to test but other conditions are met, we ask that you wait until day 10 after symptoms appeared (or the first positive test) before returning.

If you have tested positive and were present at one of our functions, please contact staff@gmiem.org immediately so we may begin contact tracing procedures. This process is confidential and necessary to help keep our community safe.

GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE WORSHIP

It can be difficult to maintain a proper heart posture for worship while surrounded with the comforts and distractions of home. Here are some guidelines to help you keep the proper attitude as we worship God together:

• Please prayerfully join the worship

• Have a right heart and body posture as you worship Him (ie. wash up, get dressed, sit up and don’t lie down)

• Remove any distractions

• Find a place where you and/or your entire family can focus on worshiping God

• Use the largest screen available to worship

• Be ready to give offering online

• During the message please refrain from interacting each other in chat to focus more on the Word.
